Cocoa BeansCould eating chocolate make you thinner? It’s every woman’s dream: could chocolate, the substance that cures everything from PMS to heartbreak, also make you skinnier?

If true, there’s got to be a catch, right?

Here’s the skinny: Dr. Beatrice Golomb, associate professor of medicine at University of California, San Diego, has published a study in the Archives of Internal Medicine linking regular chocolate consumption with a lower body mass index, or BMI.” By Jacque Wilson — writer/producer – March 26th, 2012.

Cocoa BeansCocoa from dark chocolate lowers risk from colon cancer – Researchers from the Science and Technology Institute of Food and Nutrition in Spain have published the result of a study in the journal Molecular Nutrition & Food Research detailing the potent anti-carcinogenic effect of the natural chocolate compound, cocoa. Scientists determined for the first time that regular consumption of cocoa negates the inflammatory effect of digestive oxidative stress that results in intestinal complaints and is a precursor to the genesis of colon cancer. Cocoa is now considered a superfood as it has been shown to improve blood lipids and help prevent cardiovascular disease in past research. The result of this current study demonstrates that a daily dose of the compound can help prevent colon cancer progression.” By John Phillip, Natural News, February 06, 2012.

Rose Bar is made with Red BeetsSo why has the FDA not acted?

“The Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act requires the FDA to prevent consumer deception by clarifying that a food label is misleading if it omits significant, “material” information. In 1992 however, the FDA issued a policy statement that defined “material” by the ability to be sensed by taste, smell, or other senses. The FDA determined that GE Foods were “substantially equivalent” to conventionally produced foods, so there was no material difference – and no labeling was required. After almost 20 years, this policy is still in effect today.” – Just Labet

Rose Bar is made with Red BeetsOur Rose bar is made with red beets. Check out the following article to find out why we chose to use them in this very special raw chocolate bar. “Red beets and beet juice top the list of healing antioxidants due to polyphenol and betalain concentration. Beets are a very good source of dietary fiber, potassium, manganese, and folate. Beets are also a good source of Vitamin C, zinc, copper, and iron. Beets contain polyphenols and betalains, which are getting quite a bit of medical attention as important natural antioxidants. Beets have been clinically proven to support liver function in rats. Recent clinical research suggests that beets and beet juice are useful in healing a variety of degenerative conditions.” – by: Donna Earnest Pravel, Natural News – January 20, 2012

Meet the Producer: Audrey Darrow, Owner of Earth Source OrganicsMeet the Producer: Audrey Darrow, Owner of Earth Source Organics – Audrey Darrow believes food heals. Which is why in 2008 she started Earth Source Organics, maker of Righteously Raw Chocolate Bars, Raw Chocolate Dipped Macaroons and Rawcholatl (an ancient Aztec cacao spice drink). These chocolates share a few key characteristics that define Earth Source Organics: they’re pure, raw—meaning all the natural nutrients are fully intact—and sweetened with only low-glycemic ingredients, like coconut sugar, agave and coconut nectar. ” Read the rest of the interview at Foodspring – December 14, 2011.

70% of World’s Raw Chocolate Soon To Be Genetically Modified – With the intention of flooding 70% of the global cocoa supply with genetically modified (GMO) cocoa tree hybrids, a collaboration involving Mars, USDA and IBM is accelerating this process.” By T Kelly, – December 2, 2011.

Chocolate consumption lowers stroke risk and heart disease incidence by a third – We now have documented evidence to explain how dark chocolate consumption lowers stroke risk in women and slashes heart disease risk in adults. Researchers publishing the Journal of the American College of Cardiology found high chocolate consumption correlates with a lower risk of stroke in women. Further proof of vascular benefits is documented in the British Medical Journal as scientists explain that chocolate consumption lowers heart disease risk by more than a third.” By John Phillip, Natural News, November 07, 2011.

Chocolate SquaresChocolate and cocoa polyphenols vindicated in the war against heart disease – Researchers from the University of Cambridge in England have finally published solid evidence to demonstrate the consumption of chocolate is associated with improved heart and vascular health. Writing in the prestigious BMJ (British Medical Journal), Dr. Oscar Franco and his team determined several factors including diet, exercise, body weight control and lifestyle changes could help reduce the risk of heart disease, a condition expected to claim the lives of nearly 24 million people worldwide by the year 2030.” By John Phillip, Natural News, September 07, 2011.
